Chevrolet will become the first US car maker to integrate Apple's Siri virtual assistant technology into its cars with the launch of its 2013 Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Sonic models. Siri's special car edition was first announced last June at Apples world developers conference. The software is called Siri Eyes Free and it is designed to allow drivers perform cellphone capabilities while keeping their attention on the road.

Chevrolet plans to add Siri to its lines of sedan before implementing it to is luxury line. A respond to early adoption by luxury market leader Mercedes Benz.

The car industry is facing challenges from having to provide great car entertainment while  complying with federal safety regulation. Distracted driving  has become a major cause of accidents, so finding a middle point like the one provided by voice activated Siri, makes business senses for most auto makers.

Industry surveys have found that 48% of young drivers actively surf the Internet while behind the wheel.
