According to RAV 4 chief designer Yoshikazy Saeki  a new hybrid line has been considered within the company for a good a while.

The 2013 Toyota RAV4 may have just debuted at the L.A. Auto Show, but rumors are already swirling over new variants. The 2013 RAV4 is currently powered by a 2.5-liter I-4, and rumor has it a hybrid variant could join the lineup in the future.

The current RAV4 generation is available with a 268HP V6 but for clients looking for more oomph have been advice an upgrade to a Highlander or an FJ Cruiser. Ideally, in the eyes of Toyota executives a hybrid Rav4 could have a very warm welcome by the market specially with gas prices in the U.S near $4 per gallon. The current 2013 Rav4 has received an EPA of 24/31 mpg city/highway while a hybrid version should get 40mpg, making it a very attractive option for consumers.
